Polaris Project, Washington DC
United States
Polaris is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) that was founded in 2002 to combat human trafficking and modern-day slavery. Since its founding, intervention programs have been created in the United States and Japan to work towards eradicating all forms of human trafficking. The Japan Trafficking Intervention Program (JTIP) was launched in 2004, including a holistic array of programming including direct services for survivors, a hotline for victims and community members to call, training programs to educate law enforcement and social service providers, policy advocacy, leadership development, and grassroots movement-building. Reflective of the small size of the anti-trafficking movement in Japan, Polaris Project is the only NGO in Japan solely dedicated to fighting human trafficking in the entire country.
